Design and Looks
If it weren't for the new design, this would just be another basic phone from LG. At first glance, you would say there's nothing special about it but if you look closely you'll notice this bar phone does not have a perfect rectangular shape. Although the sides are straight and parallel, you will notice that the top and bottom of the phone are curved. As usual, Samsung are always trying to mix things up with the D-pad controls and here we see the soft-keys and the call/end keys make leisurely use of the available space. These buttons around the nav-pad are bigger than the alphanumeric keypad. While this is welcome we wish these keys were a little smaller so we could have more space for a keypad with larger keys.
The nav-pad is four way with a confirming centre in the middle. The alphanumeric keypad is crammed in the space below this but the individuation of each key is sufficient to offer good orientation. Tactility is poor as the keys are hard to press and the relatively small keys are bound to cause a lot of typos. The back of the phone is relatively plain to look at and features the VGA camera and a speakerphone. The phone's screen is a lame 1.77-inch TFT screen with QQVGA resolution producing over 65K colours. Since good screens were never really a virtue of LG basic phones, we will leave it at that.
The phone's UI sports a simple user-interface with basic Java apps including others like FM radio, mp3 player, voice recorder and VGA camera. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, USB and GPRS. These features are similar to the ones on other phones in this series. So, the choice between different phones and this, the KP195 boils down to the looks and the feel of the keypad.
