Design and Looks
The design of the phone has been made with respect to the youth in mind. The phone comes in various colours and a rubbery finish at the rear end. This makes the device easier to hold and gives a firm grip when in hand.
LG GW20 stands at 106.5 x 53 x 15.9 mm and weighing about 125.5 gram.
The front of the phone is occupied by the 2.8” 256K color display of 240x400 pixel resolution. Below the screen the phone houses the three buttons that include the Call and End key on either side of the Launcher/Multitasking key.
The handset features the four row slide out QWERTY keypad with well spaced keys. There is also a dedicated key for composing messages. Also tiny LEDs are present to indicate Caps Lock and Num Lock/Symbol Lock. The Backlighting on the phone is even and is easier to type in the dark.
The left hand side of the phone features a volume rocker and is the only key present on the phone which also serves as a digital Zoom.
The right side of the phone contains the microSD card slot, a key lock and the camera key.
The interface on this phone comes with flash based UI and features some good animations and transition effects. Lagging is not an issue on the interface as its responsive enough and quick.
The LG GW520 comes along with a mini FM radio, a mini music player, a notes app, a world clock, a calendar, WeatherBug, cellular info, web search and Facebook widgets and also Push e-mail widget.
The voice clarity on the phone is good and it handles phone calls trouble free. The phone supports speed dialing and smart dialing too.
The camera on the phone comes with a 3 megapixel sensor but lacks auto focus and flash. As the maximum resolution is 320x240 and the frame rate is low , the phone lags good video.
The LG GW520 comes equipped with a nice music player. The player features enhanced album art visualization and the equalizer presets. The player provides functions to filter tracks according to artist , album, genre and recently played . User-created playlists are also an option. There is also radio present in the phone which supports RDS. The radio can store up to 50 stations and there is also support for receiving two line radio station information over RDS.
With respect to connectivity the phone is a quad band has 7.2mbps HSDPA. There are 4 available USB connection modes on the LG GW520 including Mass Storage.
Overall the phone looks to add up to LG's performance in the mid-range market and is designed to attack its fierce rivals the Samsung Preston . Overall a good phone to buy if one is satisfied with its features.
