Design and Looks
The GT505 is almost identical to the Cookie. The phone sports a native resolution of 240x400 pixels and 262k color support. The phone lacks sunlight eligibility and is a common drawback with entry level phones. The display indoors though is bright and able to display good vibrance. The phone is completely made of plastic and the stylus compartment is located in the upper right part of the handset.
On the sides the phone houses the volume rocker, camera shutter and phone lock.
There is microUSB port included on the phone but unfortunately the phone does not come along with a 3.5mm jack.
The interface on the phone is the S-Class 3D interface which is also present on the cookie. Compared to the cookie, the GT505 sports less widgets on the home screen but gets everything done with the present number.
The phone comes along with GPS featuring WisePilot for LG. The java platform comes loaded with nice extra features as 2D-3D view and voice navigation. The application uses the NAVTEQ maps that give a modest performance as some regions are not listed on the maps.
The highlight of this budget phone is its camera. The LG GT505 comes with a great 5 megapixel camera. Some of the images shot with this phone are striking enough to beat the images captured from 8 megapixel cameras. But there are drawbacks too, the camera interface is average and sports features like scene presets, macro mode , effects and white balance. The video player on the phone is able to capture videos at 320x240 pixels at 20 frames per second. The video output is bad and results in sluggish or blurry output.
The music player on the phone sports a great look and features several equalizer presets. Unfortunately there is not customizable option available for the equalizer. It is also equipped with the FM radio. The audio output on the phone through the loudspeaker is loud enough and the same goes with the earphones also.
The battery on the phone is a great performer with 300 hrs of standby and 3.5 hours of continuous talk time.
Overall the phone fits in the main stream segment nicely. LG has worked nicely in keeping the price low and not to over compromise on the features like GPS , Wi-Fi and not to mention the amazing 5 mega pixel camera. The only drawbacks on the phone which could be noted were the video playback and the capture. Among the budget phones which include the Samsung star or the LG Cookie , the GT505 is the best deal.
