Design and Looks
The GB190 Bullet is not very different from the other Bullet phones but it is also the best Bullet phone available. The LG GB190 is wedge-shaped in the sense that it is wider at the top and narrower at the bottom. We like this design very much and it's not every day that you see phones like these. The front of the phone features a smallish 1.5-inch display. LG claims that the display is capable of producing up to 262K colours but we know that's not really the case. It's 65K colours at best just like the rest of the displays in the Bullet range.
Below the display are the D-pad controls and the soft keys ensemble. The nav-pad is four-way and also double up as keys to control the music functions. The nav-pad surrounds a confirming centre key that is also charged with play/pause functionality. The alphanumeric keypad is divided row-wise only and each row is bow shaped. While this is supposed to increase touch-orientation, the phone's hard-to-press keys make sure that the keypad loses out on tactility. 5/10 for keypad.
The GB190, until now is only one of the two Bullet phones with a camera, and god forbid it's a VGA one. If you've had any experience with these cameras you'd know that it's not worth using. But, it is also our obligation to review the phone objectively, so we will also fill you in on all that this camera is capable of. The camera interface manages to pack in many options like self-timer, quality modes, resolution modes, colour effects, white balance modes, scene modes and even brightness adjustment. This camera is also capable of recording videos in the low QCIF resolution. So, while the pictures are quite horrible, it follows that the videos are to be described in a negative adjective that hasn't been invented yet. Nevertheless, there are many imaging options for video too including 2x digital zoom. But since at videos look bad at normal zoom, we can only imagine how much worse they will be at a higher zoom level.
The phone is also capable of music and comes built-in with an FM radio and mp3 player. The mp3 player has several equalizer presets including Normal, Bass, Classical, Treble, Party, Pop and Rock. The player also supports other formats like AMR, MIDI, WAV and ACC. The FM radio allows for radio broadcast recording as it is so proudly stated in large letters on the phone's front. Scheduled recording of radio is also possible on the phone.
So, while the Bullet GB190 is the hallmark Bullet phone, its poor keypad ends up making some of the other cheaper Bullet phones look better. Don't even consider purchasing this one.
